How to Find the Right Activity

  1. Open the Houston Parks registration website.
  2. Search using the activity name or Sunnyside Community Center.
  3. Verify the age range and listed session dates.
  4. Check whether registration is open and whether fees apply.
  5. Complete the City’s official registration process and save confirmation.

After-School & Summer Enrichment Programs

Houston Parks and Recreation offers free after-school and summer enrichment programming at participating community centers for children ages 6–13.

Programs may include supervised games, recreation, fitness and enrichment activities. Enrollment limits, daily schedules, parent authorization and activity locations must be verified for Sunnyside specifically.

Before Registration

  • Confirm the child meets the required age range.
  • Check whether Sunnyside has open spaces.
  • Ask about school-year or summer session dates.
  • Check pickup, emergency contact and guardian rules.

Documents to Prepare

  • Child’s identifying information.
  • Parent or guardian contact details.
  • Emergency contact information.
  • Required enrollment and permission forms.
  • Any additional paperwork requested by the program.
Do not confuse free recreation with automatic enrollment. A child may need an accepted registration before attending a supervised after-school or summer program.

How to Reserve Sunnyside Community Center Online

  2. Choose Reservations. Select the option to make a facility reservation.
  3. Select Reserve Facility. Use the Community Center Rentals event category.

  8. Review policies and fees. Read the rental conditions, waiver and event-security requirements.
  9. Submit the request. Save or print your reservation request receipt and permit reference number.
  10. Complete security requirements. Arrange the required certified peace officer security and submit the required Event Security Plan Form when applicable.
  11. Pay after City review. Follow the City’s approval and payment instructions by the stated due date.
  12. Retain the approved permit. Do not advertise the rental as confirmed until official approval is issued.
Lead time: Houston Parks’ reservation FAQ requires community-center rental requests at least 21 days in advance. Requests submitted at the last minute should not be assumed eligible.
Security requirement: The official FAQ says a certified peace officer security confirmation is required for community-center rentals. The department asks for this within seven days of the initial request. Speak with staff about applicable event-specific requirements.

According to the City’s general policy, community-center rentals are normally not available during regular public building hours, with exceptions for certain other listed facilities. Plan to confirm Sunnyside’s approved rental window before choosing an event start time.

Rental Cost Example: Planning a Three-Hour Event

The following examples use the City’s published Level II community-center charges and show why the base rental price may not equal the total amount needed.

Nonprofit Meeting Room

For an event ending by 7 PM:

$53.71 base fee

Plus applicable room setup/cleanup, refundable deposit and any required security or other charges.

Commercial Multipurpose Room

For an event ending by 7 PM:

$127.56 base fee

Plus applicable room setup/cleanup, refundable deposit and any required security or other charges.

Estimate carefully: The published rental rate is a starting rate for the first one to three hours. It does not establish the maximum capacity, guarantee room availability or include all possible event expenses.

Before booking, ask whether the space is suitable for your expected guest count and whether furniture, parking, kitchen use, security or equipment has additional requirements.

What to Ask Before Renting

  • Which tables and chairs are included?
  • Can food be served?
