Free Counseling: How to Get Started

  1. Identify the help you want. Peer counseling may be useful for identity, relationship, family, isolation or other life concerns.
  2. Call 267-416-0451. This is William Way’s published peer counseling number.
  3. Follow the service instructions. Ask about current availability and how to connect with a counselor. Do not assume same-day appointments.
  4. Protect your privacy. William Way describes the service as anonymous and does not collect the identifying information needed to return voicemail messages.
  5. Ask for referrals when appropriate. Peer counselors may help identify additional community resources or professional therapists.
Not an emergency or clinical service: Peer counseling is not a substitute for licensed mental-health treatment, crisis response or emergency care. If there is immediate danger, call 911. For immediate emotional crisis support in the United States, call or text 988.
