After-School Care and Youth Activities

The Lenox Community Center has an established after-school program commonly referred to as the Game Room. The program supports recreation and supervised activities for children outside regular school hours.

The Town’s program-coordinator responsibilities include supervising after-school staff, organizing afternoon activities, coordinating special classes and planning minicamps or outings during school vacations.

Questions Parents Should Ask

  • What grades or ages are eligible?
  • Does the program have places available for the current term?
  • What time does supervision begin and end?
  • Is transportation from school included or arranged separately?
  • Are snacks or meals provided?
  • What is the tuition or registration fee?
  • What forms and emergency contact details are required?
  • How are children signed out and collected?

How to Enroll Your Child

  1. Contact the Community Center at 413-637-5530.
  2. Ask for the current after-school program application and eligibility rules.
  3. Confirm whether your child’s grade or age qualifies.
  4. Request the current fee, schedule and available dates.
  5. Complete the required parent or guardian information and emergency forms.
  6. Ask about transportation, pickup arrangements and the center’s youth discipline policy.
  7. Wait for confirmation of acceptance before assuming your child has a place.
Child safety: The Town maintains a youth discipline policy for its programs. Parents should review expectations for supervision, conduct, pickup and dismissal before enrollment.

Summer Camp and School-Vacation Recreation

Lenox Community Center organizes summer recreation and school-vacation activities. The specific ages, dates, activities and fees can change each season.

Summer programs may involve outdoor recreation, sports, group games, enrichment or supervised outings, depending on the published program schedule.

Summer Program Planning Checklist

  • Check program hours and whether extended care is offered.
  • Request the total price and payment deadline.
  • Ask whether swimming, field trips or transportation are included.
  • Prepare emergency contacts and health information as required.
  • Check cancellation, refund and severe-weather policies.

For comparison, the Matt Dishman Community Center youth programming guide explains how another public recreation operator handles registered activities, age restrictions and scheduled programs. Its fees and enrollment rules do not apply to Lenox.

For the latest classes and lunch reservations, use the official Council on Aging page.

Another example of a recreation center combining senior programs and community services is covered in our Yes We Can Community Center senior and activity guide. Check each facility’s own program rules rather than assuming identical services.

Outdoor Pickleball Courts Behind Lenox Community Center

The Town maintains outdoor pickleball courts behind the Community Center at 65 Walker Street. The courts can also be accessed from Old Center Street.

LocationBehind Lenox Community Center, 65 Walker Street
SeasonEarly spring through late fall
HoursDaylight hours; courts have no lights
ReservationsFirst come, first served
Commercial usePrivate instruction and profit-making activities prohibited

How Court Rotation Works

  1. When courts are occupied, place your paddle in the waiting rack.
  2. Follow the rack order as players finish games.
  3. The losing team leaves the court after the game.
  4. The next two waiting players rotate onto the court.
  5. A winning team may remain for up to two games before rotating off.

Respect the other players waiting and avoid occupying a court for private commercial instruction. The Town prohibits using the courts for personal or business profit.

Lenox Town Beach at Laurel Lake

The Lenox Community Center also oversees the Town Beach at Laurel Lake. The beach is a separate recreation location, not a swimming pool inside the Community Center.

For the 2026 season, the Town required beach passes and provided both resident and nonresident options.

Published 2026 Beach Schedule

PeriodPublished schedule
Through June 21Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–2:30 PM; no weekends
June 22–August 23Daily, 8 AM–8 PM
August 24–September 7Monday–Friday, 8 AM until dusk, no later than 8 PM

These are the Town’s 2026 seasonal dates, not year-round beach hours. The 2026 summer season has ended; future access depends on the next published schedule.

Beach Passes and Accessibility

  • Lenox residents could obtain passes at the Community Center or from beach attendants.
  • Nonresidents could purchase annual or weekly passes through the Community Center.
  • The Town lists accessible parking and an available sand/water wheelchair.
  • Swimming and lifeguard availability depend on the season, weather and staffing.
  • Alcohol, glass containers, smoking, vaping, grills and pets are prohibited under the published beach rules.
Beach safety: Do not assume lifeguards are present whenever the beach is accessible. Verify the operating season, current passes and lifeguard coverage before swimming.

Capacity limits are not a guarantee that every room setup will support the maximum number. Ask staff about tables, accessibility, catering needs and applicable event approvals.

How to Reserve a Room at Lenox Community Center

  1. Identify your event type. Decide whether the space will be used for a class, meeting, birthday, family celebration or other approved gathering.
  2. Choose the correct room. Compare the Ballroom, Lunch Room, Living Room and any other available spaces.
  3. Estimate attendance. Check the published seated and standing limits.
  4. Contact the Community Center. Call 413-637-5530 or email the Director to request available dates and current prices.
  5. Obtain the correct facility-use form. Use the class/program, private-event or school-event paperwork appropriate for your booking.
  6. Confirm the total cost. Ask about room charges, security deposit, setup and cleanup time, equipment and any special requirements.
  7. Review the facility policies. Read rules on music, alcohol, decorations, smoking, supervision and cleaning.
  8. Sign and submit the contract. Provide the required renter information and payment according to the official instructions.
  9. Wait for approval. Treat the event as reserved only after the Community Center confirms the rental.

Rental Rules That Can Affect Your Event

IssuePublished Lenox policy
Event ending time Functions generally must end by 11 PM unless the Director gives written permission.
Music Music must remain at an acceptable volume that does not disturb neighbors.
Alcohol Requires the applicable approved one-day liquor license and compliance with Town rules.
Smoking Prohibited inside the building and on Community Center grounds.
Decorations Use painter’s tape. Nails, tacks and damaging adhesives are prohibited.
Helium balloons Not permitted in the Ballroom under the class/program facility policy.

Tables and chairs Do not drag furniture; lift and return it to its original arrangement.
Accessibility The facility-use policy states that access is available to all building levels.
Balconies and roof Access is prohibited under the facility policies.

The Town’s policy describes setup and cleanup as the renter’s responsibility. Ask staff how much setup time is included and whether additional time must be booked.

Alcohol-related events: A general room reservation does not automatically authorize alcohol service. Discuss the event with the Community Center and Town before making alcohol-related plans.

If you are comparing different public event spaces and how their rental rules work, the Warren Community Center auditorium and booking guide provides another example of capacity, staffing and reservation considerations. Lenox uses its own contracts and rates.

Parking, Accessibility and Arriving at the Center

Lenox Community Center is at 65 Walker Street, close to downtown Lenox in the Berkshires.

The Town’s facility-use policy confirms accessibility to all building levels. However, specific accessible parking spaces, entrance arrangements and equipment should be confirmed before a visit that depends on those features.

What to Check Before Arriving

  • Whether your activity uses the main entrance or another room entrance.
  • Where visitors should park during large events.
  • Accessible entrance and restroom arrangements.
  • Whether tables and chairs are provided for your room setup.
  • Whether the event organizer has separate check-in instructions.
  • Any temporary closures due to maintenance or weather.
