Cornerstone is a community and senior center rather than a full-time public sports complex. Not every activity is available throughout building hours. Check the monthly program calendar for specific class times, meals, trips and special events.
Before your first program: Complete the center’s Participation Agreement, which records basic participant information and explains its policies. Staff can help you complete it and arrange a check-in key tag.
How to start participating
- Open the official Programs & Activities page.
- Review the activity descriptions and current monthly newsletter, The Scoop.
- Download the fillable or printable Participation Agreement.
- Complete the form, then submit it following the center’s instructions or bring it to the welcome desk.
- Ask staff whether your chosen class needs a reservation, fee, transportation arrangement or additional registration.

Does Cornerstone have an exercise room?
Yes. The center identifies an exercise room with fitness equipment. Visitors must wear appropriate footwear, avoid street shoes when using equipment and wipe equipment after use.
Ask the welcome desk about orientation, equipment availability, applicable participation requirements and any supervision rules before using it.
Participation fees: residents vs. nonresidents
| Participant | General participation policy |
|---|---|
| Residents of DeForest, Windsor and Vienna | The center receives municipal support from these communities. The published $48 annual nonresident charge does not apply to qualifying residents. |
| Outside these communities | $48 annual nonresident participation fee under the published policy. |
| Individual activities, meals or trips | May have separate charges, donations or registration requirements. |
The $48 fee is a published general participation charge, not an all-inclusive pass covering every class, meal or excursion. Confirm current fees before paying.
Senior Lunch Program: Cost, Days & Reservations
Cornerstone provides a senior nutrition program with meals and social opportunities. Meals are catered, so a reservation is needed rather than simply arriving at lunchtime.
| Question | Published arrangement |
|---|---|
| Center lunch days | Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday |
| Wednesday alternative | My Meal My Way at DeForest Family Restaurant, generally 10 AM–1 PM |
| Age 60 and older | Donation-based meals; the center’s sources have listed suggested donations of $4.50 and $5 |
| Under age 60 | The center’s FAQ lists $13.56 per meal |
| Reservation deadline | By noon on the business day before the meal |
How to reserve lunch
- Decide which weekday you want to attend and whether you need transportation.
- Call 608-846-9469.
- Tell staff that you want to reserve a senior lunch or ask about Wednesday’s My Meal My Way option.
- Provide your name, meal date and any information the nutrition coordinator requests.
- Make the reservation no later than noon on the previous business day.
- Confirm arrival details, donation guidance and whether transportation has also been arranged.
For a Monday lunch, the reservation deadline is generally the preceding Friday at noon, assuming no holiday affects operations.
Participants with special dietary concerns should ask staff about the available meal and any accommodations before reserving.
Transportation Services: Local Rides & Medical Appointments
Transportation is a major part of Cornerstone’s support for older residents. It offers local transit coordination and medical escort opportunities through associated services. Eligibility is not identical for every ride type.
Transportation options compared
| Service | Who and what it serves |
|---|---|
| Transit Solutions | Eligible residents age 60+ or individuals with qualifying disabilities needing local rides to shopping, activities, lunch and appointments. |
| Medical Escort / RSVP | Eligible residents age 60+ needing transportation to medical appointments within Dane County. |
| Shopping trips | Scheduled local and regional shopping opportunities published in the center’s monthly newsletter. |
| Lunch transportation | Eligible participants attending center meals or approved dining activities. |
Who may qualify for medical escort rides?
The center describes its RSVP medical transportation as intended for people age 60 or older who live independently, lack another suitable transportation option and are not receiving transportation through certain long-term care arrangements.
People enrolled in programs such as IRIS or other long-term care services may need to use transportation benefits through those programs instead. Ask the center to help identify the correct option if you are uncertain.
How to request a ride
- Call 608-846-9469 and explain whether the trip is for a medical appointment, shopping, lunch or another activity.
- Give the appointment date, desired arrival time, destination and return-trip needs.
- Explain any mobility equipment, assistance or accessibility requirements.
- Ask staff to confirm eligibility and scheduling.
- Reserve as early as possible. The center’s medical escort policy asks for at least three days’ notice; local rides cannot be booked on the day of travel.
- Wait for confirmation before relying on the ride.
Ride availability depends on driver schedules and capacity. Transportation may not be available for every appointment or location.
Other Community Support & Equipment Loans
Durable medical equipment loan closet
Cornerstone maintains a loan closet with durable medical equipment available for temporary use based on inventory. The center also accepts suitable equipment donations in working condition.
Call before visiting to ask what equipment is currently available, how long it may be borrowed and whether a participation form or return date applies. Do not assume a specific walker, wheelchair or other device is in stock.
Help from case managers
The center provides support and referrals for community members navigating aging-related concerns, independent living, health resources and financial or household difficulties.
Staff may connect residents with agencies, explain community resources and assist with coordination. This is not a substitute for emergency medical services or a guaranteed financial-assistance program.
Volunteer opportunities
Volunteer roles include meal packing, serving lunch, meal delivery, transportation support, front desk work, event assistance, gardening and other projects. Specialized RSVP volunteer roles may require extra training and registration.
- Open the official Volunteer page.
- Choose the printable or fillable Volunteer Registration Form.
- Complete the requested information and references.
- Return the form to the center or email it to volunteer@deforestcenter.org.
- Arrange an introduction with the Volunteer Coordinator before beginning.

The center maintains a substance-free environment.

- Published fees are nonrefundable and agreements are nontransferable.
- If the center itself closes unexpectedly, its policy provides for a refund.
