Portland Access Discount

Portland residents who need help with recreation costs can sign up for the PP&R Access Discount. There is no proof-of-income requirement.

Choose a 25%, 50%, 75% or 90% discount, based on your needs. The approved discount lasts 12 months and automatically reduces eligible admission and registered class prices.

  1. Visit the official Portland Parks Access Discount page.
  2. Sign into your Portland Parks & Recreation registration account or create one.
  3. Register the discount for each eligible household member.
  4. Select the discount percentage you need.
  5. Wait for the discount to appear on eligible activities before completing payment.

  1. Choose the correct center. Open Portland’s official recreation activity search and select Montavilla Community Center.
  2. Find the program. Search by activity, participant age, preferred date or session.
  3. Check availability. Read the exact age limits, class dates, fees, prerequisites and waitlist information.
  4. Create an account. Use Portland Parks & Recreation’s official online registration system.
  5. Apply the Access Discount first. If eligible, register your discount before purchasing the class.

Registered classes normally require advance enrollment. Drop-in activities do not usually require advance signup, but they have scheduled times, possible capacity limits and applicable admission charges.

TeenForce at Montavilla Community Center

TeenForce is a Portland Parks & Recreation initiative for youth ages 10–20. It offers supervised recreational, social and enrichment activities that help teens connect with other young people in a supportive setting.

Montavilla offers TeenForce opportunities Monday through Friday, but specific lounge, open-gym, art and teen-night schedules vary.

How Teens Can Participate

  1. Confirm that the participant is between 10 and 20 years old.
  2. Open the official TeenForce program page.
  3. Find Montavilla Community Center in the location schedule.
  4. Check the specific activity’s time and any narrower age requirements.
  5. Obtain the required TeenForce pass before participation.
  6. Follow the registration, check-in and supervision instructions for that activity.

For a nearby Portland comparison of TeenForce, recreation programs and indoor swimming, see our Matt Dishman Community Center visitor guide. Matt Dishman has a separate indoor pool, so its swimming schedules and access rules should not be applied to Montavilla.

Preschool & Early Childhood Programs

Portland Parks Preschool is a play-based educational program for children ages 3–5. It emphasizes development, creativity, social experiences and age-appropriate learning.

The program participates in Preschool for All, and admission is not handled the same way as regular recreation classes.

Pricing: The official facility page does not publish one current fixed hourly rate for every rental option. Request a written quote from the center rather than relying on old PDF rates or unverified directories.

The multipurpose room is suitable for smaller gatherings, meetings and activities. The gym is more appropriate for active sports-based events or larger recreation activities. Final permitted attendance, event rules and arrangements must be approved by staff.

How to Reserve a Room or Gym

  1. Choose the gym or multipurpose room based on event size and activity type.
  2. Prepare preferred dates, start/end times, guest count and any setup requirements.
  3. Call 503-823-4101 at least two weeks before your requested date.
  4. Ask about availability, normal business-hour rates, after-hours rates, nonprofit discounts and required deposits.
  5. Confirm which tables, chairs, equipment, cleaning materials and kitchen access are included.
  6. Complete any required rental agreement, provide requested information and arrange official payment.
  7. Wait for staff confirmation before sending invitations or purchasing event-specific supplies.

For comparison with a different city-operated rental model, our Marina Community Center room-rental guide explains how to evaluate room capacity, event requirements and booking procedures. That facility is in California, so its prices and policies do not apply to Montavilla.

Birthday Parties: Sports, Indoor Park & Bounce House

Montavilla offers three main types of party package during approved after-hours rental windows.

Sports Party

A sports-focused gathering with a selection of available equipment for games and group activities.

Indoor Park Party

Indoor play equipment, including mats, trikes and a slide. Especially suitable for young children ages 5 and younger.

Bounce House Party

Sports or Indoor Park options combined with a bounce house. All jumpers require individual participant waivers.

Party Kitchen

Party renters receive exclusive kitchen access for cake and presents, with tables, chairs and cleaning supplies provided. Paper goods and party supplies are not supplied.

Bounce House Rules & Documents

  • One responsible adult over age 18 must sign the Bounce House Use Agreement and be present during the event.
  • Every bounce-house participant must have a signed waiver.
  • Staff set up the bounce house; other setup and activities are handled by the party organizers.
  • Children without a signed waiver cannot enter the bounce house, although they may participate in other approved gym activities.
  • Renters should distribute waiver forms before the party to reduce check-in delays.
  • Paper products, plates, decorations and similar party supplies are not provided.
  • Food must stay in the kitchen area.

After your booking deposit is arranged, obtain the current agreement and participant-waiver forms directly from the City’s official Montavilla page or center staff.

Plan ahead: Ask whether bounce-house setup, party cleanup and facility access time are included in the purchased party duration. Confirm cancellation and deposit terms before paying.

For another example of gym and indoor-pool party planning, the Patterson Park Community Center rental guide covers a different municipal recreation facility’s event spaces, advance-booking rules and activity-specific rentals. Its policies are not Portland policies.

Montavilla Outdoor Pool: Seasonal Swimming

Montavilla Outdoor Pool is located in Montavilla Park alongside the community center. It is a separate seasonal aquatics facility, not an indoor swimming pool within the community center.

Portland’s outdoor pools are closed for the current fall/winter season and are expected to reopen in June 2027. Exact opening dates, lap swim, open swim and lesson schedules must be checked when the next season is published.

Do not use Montavilla Community Center’s building hours as pool hours. The outdoor pool has separate seasonal access, pricing, classes and lifeguard schedules.

Montavilla Park & Nearby Outdoor Recreation

Montavilla Community Center sits inside Montavilla Park, a neighborhood park near NE 82nd Avenue and NE Glisan Street.

The park offers a playground, picnic areas, walking paths, sports fields, basketball and other outdoor recreation spaces. It is useful for families who want outdoor play before or after a scheduled center activity.

Park facilities can have different reservation rules. For organized field use, picnic shelters or large gatherings, check Portland Parks & Recreation’s applicable reservation procedures rather than assuming a community-center room reservation includes outdoor areas.
