For perspective on how fitness, family and cultural membership benefits differ at another large JCC, read our Oshman Family Jewish Community Center program comparison. That center is in Palo Alto, California, so its fees are not Levine JCC prices.

Members can use available swimming lanes according to current pool schedules and reservation rules.

Guest Access, Non-Member Programs & Financial Help

The Levine JCC is open to people of all faiths and backgrounds, but being welcome to participate does not mean every facility or service is available without membership.

Community participants may register for eligible programs, while general fitness and facility use follow membership and guest policies.

Before Visiting as a Guest

  • Ask whether guest admission is available on your intended date.
  • Confirm whether a member must accompany you.
  • Ask about guest fees and access restrictions.
  • Bring photo identification if required.
  • Check whether children may enter specific activity areas.
  • Verify whether a day visit includes swimming or group classes.

Program Affordability

The membership page provides information on program affordability assistance. Ask staff whether your specific camp, childcare, program or membership is eligible, what financial records are required and when applications must be submitted.

For a broader comparison of membership versus daily admission at a city-operated recreation facility, our community recreation center fees and access guide explains the questions worth checking. Municipal pricing does not apply to the privately operated Levine JCC.

Campus Facilities, Food Rules & First-Time Visits

The Levine JCC is part of the Shalom Park campus in South Charlotte. It includes fitness and recreation buildings, pools, sports areas, art spaces and youth program facilities.

Food and Kosher Policy

The organization’s published program policies say Shalom Park is a kosher facility.

Rules include restrictions on pork products, shellfish and combining meat and dairy products. Visitors organizing meals, snacks, birthday activities or group programs should read the current food rules before bringing outside food.

Food planning tip: if you are arranging a birthday event, camp meal, school activity or private group gathering, ask staff whether food is permitted in the area you will use and which kosher guidelines apply.

First Visit Checklist

  • Use the correct Providence Road campus address.
  • Confirm hours for the exact activity, not just the facility.
  • Ask whether you need membership or program registration.
  • Bring identification, payment confirmation and required forms.
  • For swimming, confirm pool access and reservation rules.
  • For children, review pickup authorization and supervision policies.
  • Check Jewish holiday closures and special hours.
  • Ask which entrance to use for preschool, camp or events.
  • Confirm accommodation or accessibility requirements before visiting.

Levine JCC vs Other Types of Recreation Centers

The Levine JCC offers a combination of fitness, aquatics, youth care, camps, arts and community programming. That makes it different from a gym that focuses only on exercise equipment.

Your main goalWhat to compare
Fitness and swimmingMonthly membership, joining fee, pool and class access.
Preschool or afterschoolTuition, school pickup, hours, program-specific fees and registration forms.
Tennis and pickleballMembership, court reservations, class rates and play availability.
Adult cultural activitiesEvent access, classes, registration and community participant pricing.
Occasional recreationGuest policies, day access and whether a full membership is needed.

For an example of a public recreation center offering pool, fitness, teen and activity programs under a different fee structure, read our Matt Dishman Community Center swimming and recreation guide. It describes Portland, Oregon, not a Charlotte-area location.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Ignoring the joining fee: the published monthly membership price is not necessarily the entire initial cost.
  • Using facility hours for swimming: pool lanes and lessons have separate schedules.
  • Confusing Amilia and MY J: SmartRec manages programs and payments, while MY J handles many activity reservations.
  • Assuming all programs are included: private instruction, camp, childcare and some specialty programs may have separate costs.
  • Registering under the wrong child age: preschool, camp and sports programs apply specific age or grade rules.
  • Missing JTEAM package differences: Gold, Silver and Bronze plans include different levels of school-break coverage.
  • Forgetting holiday closures: Levine JCC can have special hours for Jewish holidays and other dates.
  • Bringing restricted food: Shalom Park’s kosher policy applies to relevant campus activities.
