Schedule note: these times come from the fall 2025 Whetstone program guide. They help visitors understand the types of sessions offered, but should not be treated as confirmed October 2026 court hours. The current fall 2026 catalog or center staff must confirm the session before you travel.

Before Going to Open Sports

  1. Identify the sport and skill or age group.
  2. Check the current fall 2026 activity listing or call the center.
  3. Confirm whether a Sports Pass or program registration is required.
  4. Bring your Leisure Card and appropriate athletic footwear.
  5. Ask whether courts are affected by leagues, rentals or other programs.

Summer Camps & Youth Programs

Whetstone hosts seasonal recreation opportunities for children and teens. The 2026 Camp Whetstone schedule included eight summer weeks, running from June 8 through July 31, with themes such as Arts Alive, Game On, Festival of Nations and Enchanted Forest.

That 2026 summer camp season has ended. Families planning for the next summer should use the new camp catalog when published rather than registering from an old program schedule.

How Camp Registration Works

  1. Create or update a parent account in ACTIVENet.
  2. Add the child’s participant information.
  3. Select Camp Whetstone and the correct week or theme.
  4. Check the posted grade/age requirements, session hours, fees and available places.
  5. Complete enrollment and any required camp forms.
  6. Keep the registration confirmation and review drop-off, pickup and lunch requirements.

For camp questions, the published 2026 contact was Jessica Pallante at JKPallante@columbus.gov or 614-645-3217.

Whetstone Community Center Room Rentals

The center lists an auditorium, meeting rooms, gymnasium, kitchen, art and activity rooms. Having a room on the amenities list does not automatically mean that it is available for every type of private event.

Meetings & Civic Groups

Ask about eligible meeting-room use, attendance capacity, tables, chairs and possible fees.

Auditorium & Events

Confirm approval for presentations, gatherings, equipment use, setup and event schedule conflicts.

Gym & Sports Reservations

Gym availability depends on City activities, sports sessions, programs and permitted use.

Kitchen & Support Space

Ask whether food service, kitchen access, cleanup and event setup are allowed for the proposed rental.

Rental price accuracy: the current Whetstone center page does not publish a complete, confirmed room-by-room rental rate table. Prices used by other Columbus recreation centers should not be presented as Whetstone rates. Obtain the exact quote for the room, date and event type before paying.

How to Request a Room

1
Identify the rental type. Choose a meeting, private event, sports activity, workshop or gathering.
2
Estimate attendance. Include children, adults, organizers and vendors when calculating room size.
3
Call Whetstone. Ask 614-645-3217 whether the intended room is rentable and what restrictions apply.
4
Request a quote. Ask about capacity, hourly cost, minimum rental period, deposit, insurance, food rules, parking and setup.
5
Complete the official inquiry. Use the City rental system or the reservation instructions given by the center.
6
Confirm in writing. An inquiry does not guarantee availability. Retain approval, payment receipts and the applicable permit or agreement.

Columbus Recreation and Parks provides a rental inquiry form, but the City explicitly states that submitting a form does not create a reservation or guarantee space.

Whetstone Park Shelter, Roses & Outdoor Recreation

Whetstone Community Center sits within Whetstone Park, a 149-acre public park known for the Columbus Park of Roses, green space, sports facilities and access to the Olentangy Trail.

Outdoor shelterOne listed open-air shelter near the lower meadow, with six tables under the shelter and 10 outside.

Park Shelter Reservations

The lower-meadow shelter is different from an indoor Whetstone Community Center room. It has its own availability and rental process.

  1. Select Whetstone Park in the Columbus open-air shelter listings.
  2. Identify Shelter #1 near the lower meadow.
  3. Check availability and reservation conditions for the intended date.
  4. Confirm restroom arrangements, permitted activities, tables and event rules.
  5. Complete the official City reservation and retain the confirmation.

Accessibility, Parking & Arrival

The City’s recreation registration listing identifies Whetstone as ADA compliant, and its current facility amenity list includes a parking lot.

Because the park contains multiple destinations, it helps to confirm whether you are going to the community center, the Park of Roses, the lower meadow shelter or the sports fields.

  • For indoor classes: use the community center address and check in at the front desk.
  • For outdoor shelter rentals: follow the Whetstone Park shelter instructions rather than assuming a room in the community center is reserved.
  • For accessibility needs: call ahead to confirm the appropriate entrance, accessible parking space and any accommodations.
  • For group activities: confirm the meeting point and expected arrival time.
  • For park visitors: remember that outdoor park hours extend beyond the community center’s operating hours.

Planned Facility Improvements in 2026

The budget describes planned improvements, not a confirmed public closure schedule. Visitors should not assume that the entire center is closed or that all areas are open during work.

Before visiting during maintenance: ask whether the gym, fitness equipment, program room, entrance or parking will be affected on the intended date.
