Tony Aguirre Community Center Rental Rates

Kansas City Parks & Recreation lists rental options for gym use, meetings and a small kitchen area.

Full gym, athletic use$75/hour526
Half gym, athletic use$40/hourConfirm setup capacity
Full gym, nonathletic use$100/hour526
Meeting room$55/hour73
Kitchen with room rental$30 flat charge5

The published rates are useful for initial budgeting, but a reservation is subject to staff approval, scheduling conflicts and the rental agreement.

Additional Rental Charges

  • After-hours rental: Regular room rental charge plus $75 per hour.
  • Deposit: The center lists $50, or 50% of the total rental when that amount is less than $50.
  • Equipment and setup: Ask whether extra charges apply.
  • Staffing or special event requirements: Must be confirmed for the proposed event.
Example only: A two-hour meeting-room rental would have a published base room charge of $110, before any applicable deposit, after-hours surcharge or other approved charges. This does not constitute a reservation quote.

Which Space Should You Choose?

Small meeting or workshop

The meeting room has a listed capacity of 73 and may suit approved educational events, neighborhood groups or celebrations.

Athletic practice

A half-court or full-court gym rental may be appropriate, depending on the activity and schedule.

Larger gathering

Ask about full-gym nonathletic use and the permitted floor plan and capacity.

Event with food service

Ask whether the kitchen can be added to the room reservation and which food-service rules apply.

How to Reserve a Room or Gym

The center directs renters to contact staff directly for availability and reservations.

  1. Choose the event. Decide whether you need athletic court use, a meeting, party or another approved activity.
  2. Estimate attendance. Consider the meeting room’s 73-person capacity or the listed full-gym capacity.
  3. Select possible dates. Prepare a preferred date and alternatives.
  4. Calculate the needed time. Include setup, event activities and cleanup in your request.
  5. Call the center. Contact 816-513-8530 to discuss the space and availability.
  6. Request rental terms. Ask about the current hourly rate, deposit, after-hours charges and insurance or supervision requirements.
  7. Complete the application. Follow the center’s approved reservation procedure.
  8. Confirm in writing. Keep the rental agreement, final charges and event-day instructions.
Do not assume availability: A listed rental rate does not mean the room or gym is available on a requested date. The community center must confirm the reservation before the event is considered booked.

Rental Policies to Check Before Paying

KC Parks publishes a community center rental policy covering applicant responsibilities and facility use.

Before signing, ask staff about:

  • The current minimum rental period.
  • Applicant age and required identification.
  • How deposits are calculated and refunded.
  • Whether liability insurance is required for your event.
  • Food, catering and alcohol policies.
  • Decorations, music, equipment and amplified sound.
  • Sports-event supervision and safety requirements.
  • Children’s activities and any background-check obligations.
  • Cleaning, damages and additional staffing fees.
  • Cancellation, postponement and weather procedures.

The published City rental policy requires organizations using community center space to conduct background checks on people placed in positions of authority over children.

Policy date: A rental policy PDF available through KC Parks references an effective date of June 1, 2008. It remains useful for understanding general conditions, but you should ask staff for the current agreement before relying on historical provisions.

Public Art and the Story Behind the Center’s Name

The community center honors Tony Aguirre, a neighborhood volunteer and mentor whose work included coaching and supporting young people through the Guadalupe Center and the Kansas City Westside community.

The building contains a six-piece mosaic and tile mural installation by artist Concetta Morales. Created in 2001 through Kansas City’s One Percent for Art program, the work is titled A Man With the Certainty of a Tree and Flair of a Fish.

The artwork reflects Aguirre’s life, his community service and the values he encouraged in young people.

His nickname was “Fish,” and the imagery references the qualities of friendship, intelligence, scholarship and honor.
