Sherwood Community Center Rental Prices
The City publishes fiscal-year pricing and rental policy documents. Prices vary based on room, day, duration, renter category, equipment and additional services.
The following figures are FY 2026 published rate examples, not a guaranteed quote for a new reservation in October 2026 or later.
| Space | FY 2026 published rate |
|---|---|
| Art Room, Monday–Thursday | $55 per hour; two-hour minimum. |
| Art Room, Friday–Sunday | $75 per hour; two-hour minimum. |
| Rehearsal Room, Monday–Thursday | $70 per hour; two-hour minimum. |
| Rehearsal Room, Friday–Sunday | $90 per hour; two-hour minimum. |
At those historical rates, the room-only cost of a two-hour weekday Art Room booking would be $110, while a two-hour weekday Rehearsal Room booking would be $140. Security deposits, equipment, taxes or applicable additional charges are not included in those examples.
The City’s published fee schedules also identify possible charges for items such as projectors, microphones, screens, piano use and alcohol-related event arrangements. Ask which items are included and which require separate payment.
Reservation Deadlines & Payment Rules
Two deadlines are particularly important for planning an event.
Submit rental applications by the 14th day of the month before the event. Later applications generally are not considered unless the event takes place during public hours.
All payments are due 60 days before the rental date. If booking within that 60-day period, full payment is due when renting.
The City states that rental applications may be submitted up to two years in advance.
An application alone does not guarantee that a requested date or room is available.
How to Book Sherwood Community Center
Identify whether you are organizing a wedding, rehearsal, birthday celebration, community meeting, performance, workshop or other eligible event.
Compare your expected attendance with the permitted room capacities. Allow room for your actual table, chair and activity arrangement.
Prepare your preferred date and two alternatives. Include setup, event and cleanup periods in your estimated rental time.
Email rentalvenues@fairfaxva.gov and provide your event type, date, room preference, guest count and equipment requirements.
Ask for an appointment if you want to inspect the room. The City encourages appointments to ensure the requested space can be shown.
Open the venue page and download the current Sherwood rental application, policy and contract documents. Review deposits, cancellation terms, liability provisions and any special event requirements.
Return the required paperwork and identification through the accepted City process. The published contract instructions require a complete six-page package plus applicant identification.
Follow the City’s payment instructions. Treat the reservation as confirmed only after the required documents, payment, receipt and permit are issued.
Before the event, confirm building entry, approved layout, parking, equipment, catering arrangements, setup time and who to contact on arrival.
Weddings, Performances & Private Parties
Sherwood Center can host weddings, anniversary parties, artistic performances, meetings and larger celebrations. However, the practical needs of these events differ.
Ask about banquet seating, guest flow, dressing arrangements, décor, catering, audiovisual equipment and the approved event schedule.
Confirm audience seating, rehearsal needs, sound equipment, stage arrangement and audience entry times.
Ask for classroom or meeting-style diagrams, presentation equipment and room accessibility details.
Recreation Classes & Community Activities
Sherwood Center also functions as a cultural arts and recreation program venue, not only a rental hall.
Fairfax City’s Parks and Recreation program materials identify activities such as music, creative learning, arts instruction and seasonal youth programs at Sherwood.
Examples from City program schedules include:
- Music instruction and youth ensemble activities.
- Artistic and educational workshops.
- Seasonal children’s camps.
- Community cultural arts events.
- Public meetings and exhibitions.
- Rehearsals and organized performances.
Specific offerings and fees change by season. An event being held at Sherwood does not mean it is managed directly by the center; some are organized by the City, instructors or external groups.
How to Find and Register for a Class
- Open the City of Fairfax Camps and Classes page.
- Choose the program category or current seasonal brochure.
- Check that Sherwood Center is the listed class location.
- Review the age range, tuition, dates, instructor and availability.
- Select online registration or another accepted registration method.
- Complete the required payment and retain your confirmation.
The City also lists walk-in registration at Sherwood Center during its specified registration office hours. Confirm the service window before visiting.

Willard–Sherwood Construction: What Visitors Must Know
The City of Fairfax and Fairfax County are developing the Willard–Sherwood Health and Community Center near the existing Sherwood Center.
The project involves replacing the former Joseph Willard Health Center at 3750 Blenheim Boulevard and connecting a new integrated facility to the Sherwood Center campus.
August 2026, according to the City’s project schedule.
Summer 2029.
Integrated community recreation, health and human services.
Pedestrian Route Changes
Beginning August 3, 2026, the City closed the walking path connecting the Layton Hall Apartments area to the police station via the Sherwood Center.
The sidewalk near the former Joseph Willard Health Center along Layton Hall Drive is also affected. The City expects construction-related walking disruptions through approximately fall 2029.
The construction project does not mean the existing Sherwood Community Center and the future Willard–Sherwood facility are the same building or that all future facilities are already available.
