The official contact and hours page should be used for center-wide schedule changes.

Which Address Should You Use?

The most current official contact page identifies 1501 Jerome Avenue, Bronx, NY 10452. An older official About page instead describes the facility at 1501 Walton Avenue.

These appear to refer to the same community campus rather than two different New Settlement Community Center branches. Use the current Jerome Avenue visitor listing and call 718-758-5901 if you need confirmation of the correct entrance.

Do not confuse the center with New Settlement’s main administrative office at 1512 Townsend Avenue, which has a different telephone number and purpose.

Membership Fees and Benefits

The center publishes annual and approximate monthly membership figures. The membership page still contains registration dates from 2025, so the amounts below should be treated as official published reference rates rather than a newly dated 2026 price schedule.

What Membership Includes

  • Access to eligible member-only fitness classes.
  • Member pricing on selected paid classes.
  • Priority or early registration periods.
  • Access to eligible family and lap swimming sessions.
  • Opportunities to join community wellness and recreation programs.

Pool availability, course registration and paid instruction may still have their own limits. A membership does not automatically guarantee an available place in every swim lesson.

Important Membership Charges

  • A center entry key tag is required and costs $1.
  • Replacement of a misplaced key tag costs $5.
  • Credit card and ACH processing can involve additional charges.
  • The published policy accepts credit/debit cards, money orders and personal checks.
  • Cash is not accepted under the published membership policy.
  • Memberships must be purchased in person.
  • The published policy does not offer prorated membership prices based on joining mid-cycle.

Payment planning: the listed monthly figures should not be assumed to be a cancellable pay-as-you-go subscription. Ask staff about the membership term, installment arrangement and total payment before enrolling.

Indoor Pool: Family Swim, Lap Swim and Safety

The center’s indoor competition-size pool supports swimming instruction, family swimming and lap swimming. Access differs depending on whether you are taking a class or attending a scheduled member swim session.

Family Swim

Recreational water time for eligible members and guests during designated sessions. Children must follow age-specific supervision rules.

Lap Swim

Exercise swimming during posted availability. Members must check lane schedules, admission requirements and any shared-use restrictions.

Swim Lessons

Group and private instruction for different ages and ability levels, starting with babies as young as six months.

Lifeguard Development

Advanced aquatic training and certification opportunities for participants who meet the relevant prerequisites.

Guest Access and Pool Entry

Family and lap swim are advertised for members and their guests. The official pool policy lists a $10 guest fee during these sessions. Guests must provide valid photo identification.

Each member needs a valid entry key tag. Published pool schedules change, so confirm that your preferred session is accepting guests before attending.

Guest access is not a general public swimming day pass. The center describes family and lap swimming as member-and-guest activities. Visitors without a membership should contact the front desk before assuming they can buy standalone swim admission.

Choosing the Correct Swimming Level

  1. Start with the participant’s exact age on the course start date.

  3. Check whether the class requires a prerequisite or swim assessment.
  4. Compare the session duration and member/nonmember fee.
  5. Confirm availability before purchasing a class package.
  6. Bring the required swimwear, cap and identification on the first day.

The center’s active-adult fitness page says these classes are exclusively available to members, are included in membership, and can be attended by young people age 15 and older where the class permits.

The nonprofit also operates broader community initiatives, such as after-school support, food access, educational programs and leadership activities. Not every New Settlement program is held inside the recreation building.

For a broader overview of how classes, pool schedules and membership requirements differ among recreational facilities, consult our community recreation center planning and registration guide.

How to Register for a Class at New Settlement

The center uses Mindbody for its member profiles, class schedules and program purchases. The official registration documentation contains both computer and mobile-app instructions.

1
Create or update the participant profile

Visit the official Mindbody account page and search for “New Settlement Community Center.” If you already have an account created at the center, use the matching email address.

2
Select the participant

Use the account of the person taking the class, or select the correct child during the registration process if a parent manages the account.

3
Open the Programs section

Choose the available service category or search for swimming, fitness, dance, martial arts or the required program.

4
Check dates, fee and eligibility

Review the session schedule, participant age, class capacity and member/nonmember pricing before continuing.

5
Complete required forms

Sign the center’s waiver and policy acknowledgement as instructed. Every participating person needs their own required profile information.

6
Complete authorized payment

Follow the current official checkout instructions. The operator’s registration documentation gives conflicting wording about online purchases, so confirm the current permitted payment method if the system does not allow checkout.

7
Finish enrolling into the actual class

After buying a service or package, make sure the participant is assigned to the chosen class. Buying a package alone may not reserve a class spot.

8
Verify the class appears in your schedule

Check “My Classes” for the correct participant. If it does not appear, contact the center rather than assuming enrollment succeeded.

9
Prepare for check-in

Bring the entry key tag and follow staff directions for the required photograph, clothing, documentation and first-session instructions.

10
Arrive 10 minutes early

The published registration policy asks participants to arrive at least 10 minutes before the scheduled class start time.

Critical final step: a completed payment is not necessarily a completed class registration. Verify that the actual class is attached to the intended student’s profile.

Membership, Entry and Center Policies

Before paying for classes or bringing children to the center, review the following published operational rules.

  • All participants must have an appropriate registered account and completed waiver.
  • Members must present a valid membership and scan the required key tag for entry.
  • Membership privileges and class registration cannot be transferred between individuals.
  • Class registration fees are due in advance.
  • Children under age 12 must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.
  • Young people ages 12–18 require parental consent.
  • Guest passes require valid photo identification and are for one-time use.
  • Photo and video recording are prohibited without permission from the center’s executive director.
  • Pets are not permitted, except qualifying service animals under applicable access rules.
  • Glass bottles, gum, inappropriate conduct and alcohol or drug use are prohibited under the center’s published code of conduct.
  • The operator generally does not offer refunds, credits or makeup classes except for organizational errors.
  • Returned checks may incur a $25 collection fee.

The center may restrict access for serious code-of-conduct violations. Contact the administration if you need clarification about disability accommodation, supervision or participant safety.

By Subway or Bus

The center is in Mount Eden near Jerome Avenue. The Mount Eden Avenue station on the 4 subway line is a useful transit reference point for planning a visit, but confirm the walking entrance, route and current service before traveling.

Use the MTA trip planner for current subway and bus routing. Station and transit information do not establish whether the pool or a particular class is open.

By Car

Use the full facility name and the Jerome Avenue visitor address in your navigation system. The operator does not publish a guaranteed free visitor parking allocation on the pages reviewed, so do not assume private on-site parking is available.

For accessible entry or a specific entrance: call 718-758-5901. Ask which entrance is appropriate and whether any elevator or program-access accommodations are needed.

Quick Visitor Checklist

  • Use the current Jerome Avenue contact address.
