Swimming clarification: The current Community Center listing does not identify an indoor swimming pool as a facility amenity. Do not confuse this location with recreation centers that offer aquatics.

Free Irondequoit Resident Access Pass

The Town offers a free Resident Access Pass for people who qualify as Irondequoit residents.

This pass provides access to specified free recreational features and programming. Published examples include:

  • Indoor walking path.
  • Community lounges.
  • Resident-only open gym sessions.
  • Resident-only indoor turf sessions.
  • Selected free community events.

The free Resident Access Pass is not equivalent to a full fitness-center membership. The weight room, cardio area, paid activities and registered group exercise sessions may require additional admission or the appropriate membership.

How to Obtain a Resident Access Pass

  1. Confirm that you live in the Town of Irondequoit.
  2. Visit the Community Center or contact the Recreation Office.
  3. Ask what proof of residency and identification is required.
  4. Complete the Resident Access Pass enrollment process.
  5. Review which amenities and sessions are included.
  6. Check the current activity calendar before your visit.
Useful for occasional visitors: If you only want a walk indoors or to attend an eligible resident-only free activity, ask about the Resident Access Pass before purchasing a paid admission.

2026 Day Pass & Drop-In Fees

The Town’s 2026 recreation guide lists different drop-in prices for residents and nonresidents.

Age CategoryResidentNonresident
Adult, ages 18–54$5 per visit$7 per visit

Military & First Responder Discount

The Town’s 2026 recreation guide lists a 20% discount for qualifying military personnel and first responders. Ask about acceptable identification and whether the discount applies to your selected membership.

Insurance-Based Memberships

Irondequoit Recreation also lists insurance-based memberships. Eligibility depends on the participating health or wellness plan and the member’s actual benefits.

Before applying, ask whether your benefit covers standard fitness access, premium classes or only a specific membership category.

Standard vs. Premium Membership

A standard membership supports regular facility access, while premium membership provides additional value for participants using group exercise frequently.

Standard Fitness Membership

Appropriate for people mainly interested in general gym, cardio, weight-room and eligible recreation access.

Premium Membership

Designed for participants who want the broader premium benefits, including no per-session registration charge for qualifying group exercise classes.

The Town publishes a separate $6 group-exercise registration fee per session for people who do not have a qualifying premium membership.

Premium memberships, including eligible insurance-based premium memberships, have a $0 registration charge for eligible group exercise sessions.

Registration is still required: Even when a group fitness class is included without an additional charge, members must preregister for a place. Premium membership does not guarantee entry to a full class.

When Does Registration Open?

Irondequoit Recreation states that enrollment for the upcoming month’s group exercise classes opens on the 15th of the preceding month.

For example, November classes generally open for registration on October 15.

Fitness Classes, Wellness & Active Recreation

The Town’s RecDesk registration system contains a large selection of group exercise activities. Course options, instructors and class locations change by season.

Group Fitness

Instructor-led exercise programs with individual session registration.

Strength Training

Fitness-center equipment and appropriate exercise activities.

Wellness Programs

Classes aimed at mobility, healthy activity and physical wellbeing.

Basketball, Pickleball & Indoor Turf

The Community Center’s indoor recreation space includes a divisible gymnasium and a separate indoor turf area. The Town’s rental information confirms that the full gym can accommodate basketball, pickleball and volleyball configurations.

Gymnasium Configuration

Gym AreaPublished Equipment
One-third gymOne pickleball court and one basketball hoop.
Two-thirds gymTwo pickleball courts and a half basketball court with one hoop.
Full gymThree pickleball courts, full-court basketball and a volleyball court.

Indoor Turf

The turf space is approximately 3,067 square feet. It accommodates suitable recreation and organized activities, subject to staff scheduling and equipment rules.

Planning an Open-Gym Visit

  1. Check the center’s recreation calendar.
  2. Look for resident-only or general open-gym periods.
  3. Confirm whether you need a Resident Access Pass, drop-in admission or membership.
  4. Ask if the session is appropriate for your age group.
  5. Bring suitable indoor athletic shoes.
  6. Follow staff instructions about court rotation and equipment.
Equipment restrictions: The 2026 rental application prohibits hardballs, bats, outside equipment and inflatables in rented gymnasium and turf spaces. Ask staff about approved equipment for public recreation too.

Youth Programs, Camps & Family Activities

Irondequoit Recreation offers seasonal activities for children and teens. Categories appearing in the Town’s program portal include:

  • Youth sports.
  • Youth dance.
  • Martial arts.
  • Arts and education.
  • Break-week camps.
  • Family programs.
  • Other seasonal recreation activities.

How to Find the Right Youth Program

  1. Open the current Recreation program list.
  2. Select the child’s age or grade category.
  3. Review the program location and schedule.
  4. Confirm resident and nonresident prices.
  5. Check available places and registration deadlines.
  6. Complete the approved online or office registration.
  7. Read all health, pickup and participation instructions.

The Town emphasizes preregistration for seasonal programs. Enrollment in one class does not automatically enroll the participant in a future session.

Accessibility & Inclusive Programming

Irondequoit Recreation states that it works to provide reasonable accommodations and improve access for participants with disabilities.

Inclusion Coordinator: Megan Hoffman, 585-336-7276.

Contact the department ahead of a program if an accommodation or access arrangement is needed.

Programs for Adults Age 55+

The Recreation Department offers older-adult activities, including wellness opportunities, social programming and a lunch program.

Because many programs are seasonal, the exact calendar should be checked through the Town’s registration system.

Senior Visitor Options

Fitness & Active Recreation

Senior membership rates, walking, appropriate exercise opportunities and registered classes.

Social & Enrichment Activities

Recreation sessions, selected lunch offerings and social events for older adults.

For eligible residents age 55 and older, a paid drop-in visit is listed at $4. A senior monthly membership costs $10 for residents or $15 for nonresidents.

Compare costs: A resident senior who uses paid drop-in facilities several times per month may find the $10 monthly membership more economical. Confirm which activities are included before joining.

  1. Choose the space. Select Genesee, Seneca, Pre-K, Dining Room, gymnasium or indoor turf.
  2. Confirm your guest count. Make sure the space’s fire-code capacity can accommodate your group.
  3. Prepare dates. List your first, second and third preferred event dates.
  4. Check the rental windows. The application has different weekday, Saturday and Sunday options.

  8. Include setup and cleanup. Reserve enough time for decorating, guest departure and restoring the room.
  9. Submit the completed application. Follow the Town’s approved email or office submission process with the required full payment.

Important Rules

  • The responsible renter must be 21 or older.
  • The renter must stay on site throughout the event.
  • The center is smoke-free.
  • Alcoholic beverages are prohibited.
  • Fundraisers, ticketed events and events for personal gain are prohibited under the rental rules.
  • Food and beverages are allowed in community rooms and the Dining Room, but not in the gymnasium or turf area.

  • Helium balloons, confetti, glitter and piñatas are prohibited.
  • Tape, tacks and similar attachments must not be used on walls, windows or woodwork.
  • Rooms must be returned to the required condition.

Children’s Supervision Ratio

For rental events involving children age 14 or younger, the Town requires a supervision ratio of one adult for every ten children.

Food & Kitchen

Refreshments may be served in approved community rooms and the Dining Room. Renters must keep food out of gym and turf areas and clean up after the event.

Event music must remain at an appropriate level and not disturb other building users. Decorations must comply with the Town’s rules, including restrictions on balloons, glitter and attachment methods.
