Two different office schedules appear online: HCC’s current main website lists 8:30 AM–4 PM, while its RecDesk facility page lists 8:30 AM–4:30 PM. Use the main website’s earlier 4 PM closing time for administration visits. Sports, camp and rental events may run outside office hours.

Harlem Community Center is not a standard public drop-in fitness center with one universal daily admission fee. Many activities require separate registration or event arrangements.

For a broader explanation of how facility hours differ from gym, activity and program schedules, read our community recreation center hours and program planning guide.

Important: HCC’s Different Locations

Harlem Community Center operates multiple facilities. Choosing the wrong address can cause problems when attending a sports game, dropping off a child or visiting a childcare center.

FacilityAddress & Purpose
Harlem Community Center 900 Roosevelt Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115. Administration, indoor basketball, cheerleading, some classes and day camp.
Wentland Family Sports Complex 9400 Forest Hills Rd, Loves Park, IL 61111. Outdoor baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball, playground and skate facilities.
Hand-N-Hand Child Care Center 9350 Forest Hills Rd, Loves Park, IL 61111. Infant and early-childhood care.
Heart of the Parks Early Learning Center 900 Roosevelt Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115. Infant through preschool education.
For baseball and softball: HCC identifies the Wentland Family Sports Complex as its outdoor sports location. Do not automatically travel to the administration office for a ball game.

The Harlem Community Center has served the region since 1957. Its newer facilities support expanded early education, recreation and family services. The organization continues to operate as a nonprofit rather than a municipal parks department.

2026 YMCA Partnership

Effective February 1, 2026, the YMCA of Rock River Valley assumed management responsibilities for Harlem Community Center under an operating partnership. HCC’s board retained local governance, and the partnership was announced as a way to strengthen existing childcare, recreation and family programs.

Current registrations, billing and program communications may therefore involve HCC, YMCA systems or both. Use the instructions on the specific program’s official page rather than assuming every service has transferred to a single registration platform.

Youth & Adult Sports: Basketball, Baseball, Softball

Harlem Community Center’s recreation programs focus strongly on children and families. The main sports include T-ball, baseball, softball, basketball and cheerleading, with seasonal clinics and adult activities.

Youth Basketball

Fall and other seasonal leagues organized by age groups, with practices and scheduled games.

Adult Basketball

Adult league opportunities, with published age-based divisions and separate registration.

Baseball & Softball

Outdoor games and skill development, primarily associated with Wentland Sports Complex.

T-Ball

Introductory baseball programming for younger children, subject to seasonal enrollment.

Cheerleading

Seasonal youth cheerleading, with team assignments and practice dates set by organizers.

Clinics

Specialized baseball and softball hitting, fielding and skill-development sessions.

Fall 2026 Basketball League Fees

ProgramPublished Fee
Youth Fall Basketball$90 per child
Adult Fall Basketball$90 per adult
Season duration8 games over 8 weeks

These are the fall 2026 basketball prices listed on HCC’s official basketball page. They are not universal rates for baseball, summer camp, childcare or every future basketball season.

Fall Basketball Divisions

Youth co-ed4–6 years
Youth co-ed7–9 years
Youth co-ed10–12 years
Youth co-ed13–16 years
Adult league18–35 years
Adult league30+ years

Divisions can change according to registration numbers. Youth games for the youngest groups were advertised for Saturdays in October and November, while older-group games and practices were assigned during the week.

Fall registration: The advertised fall 2026 deadline was September 20, 2026. By October 29, that deadline had passed. Contact HCC for late-entry eligibility, remaining activity dates or the next league rather than assuming registration is still open.

How to Register for Sports

  1. Choose the sport and participant age.
  2. Open the official HCC basketball page for basketball, or the relevant recreation program listing for another sport.
  3. Check the current season, league division, total fee and registration deadline.
  4. Follow the official registration link to HCC’s RecDesk system.
  5. Create or sign in to your household account.
  6. Add the participant and complete any required parent consent or waiver.
  7. Pay the listed fee and save your registration confirmation.
  8. Wait for the coach’s practice and game information before traveling.

After-School Care: 2026–27 Fees & Waitlist

HCC’s 2026–27 After School Program provides supervised activities for eligible school-age children. The official page states that registration is currently at capacity, with a waitlist available for interested families.

Published After-School Prices

AttendanceWeekly Fee
Full week, 4–5 days$80/week
Partial week, 1–3 days$55/week
After-school closing time5:30 PM each school day
Before-school programNot offered by HCC for the 2026–27 schedule

The organization says the earlier school start times are the reason before-school care is not offered through this HCC program. It directs families seeking school-based options to its YMCA partner programs.

How to Join the Waiting List

  1. Visit the official 2026–27 After School Program page.
  2. Find the Wait List section.
  3. Open the linked Google Form.
  4. Enter the child’s and parent/guardian’s details and the requested attendance information.
  5. Submit the form and retain any confirmation provided.
  6. Wait for the program team to contact you about an available place.
  7. Confirm tuition, start date, school transportation and pickup arrangements before accepting the place.

Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP)

HCC participates in Illinois’s Child Care Assistance Program for qualifying families. Its current after-school page provides both new CCAP applications and change-of-provider forms.

Your SituationWhich Form?
Never used CCAP beforeNew CCAP Application
Already approved, changing providersChange of Provider form
Need eligibility or tuition helpContact HCC or the appropriate CCAP office before submitting

For a new CCAP application, HCC asks for the two most recent pay stubs and/or an official school schedule, as applicable. Forms can be emailed to hcc@rockriverymca.org or brought to the HCC front desk.

Parent tip: CCAP approval does not automatically guarantee an after-school program opening. Check both subsidy approval and the HCC waitlist separately.

For comparison with a different nonprofit center offering childcare and family-support services, see our All Peoples Community Center childcare and family services guide. It covers Los Angeles, not Illinois.

Summer Day Camp: Ages, Dates & Fees

Harlem Community Center’s 2026 Summer Day Camp operated at 900 Roosevelt Road in Machesney Park. The program featured recreation games, arts and crafts, sports, social activities and age-based group programming.

2026 camp is over. The official page says registration for summer 2026 was full/closed. Its waitlist information relates to that summer season and should not be treated as an active enrollment path for 2027. Check for the next year’s announcement before making plans.

What Parents Should Prepare

  • Child’s full name, date of birth and guardian contacts.
  • Emergency contact and authorized pickup details.
  • Relevant health and medication information requested by staff.
  • Signed camp consent and activity/field-trip paperwork when required.
  • Comfortable clothes and closed-toe athletic shoes.
  • Sun protection for outdoor activities.
  • Any lunch, snack or personal-item instructions for the specific week.

Older HCC camp paperwork also includes procedures for field-trip permission, medication authorization, sunscreen, illness and emergency contacts. Those documents show the types of arrangements families should expect; use the forms issued for the current camp season rather than submitting an outdated packet.

How to Check the Next Camp Season

  1. Open HCC’s official summer camp page.
  2. Check the year shown at the top.
  3. Review updated ages, dates, daily hours and weekly tuition.
  4. Open the current inquiry or registration form.
  5. Ask about waitlists, financial assistance and refund rules.
  6. Submit registration and current-year guardian paperwork when enrollment opens.

  4. Request current weekly tuition, deposit, registration and supply costs.
  5. Ask about meals, illness exclusions, authorized pickup and operating holidays.

  7. Submit only the current enrollment forms provided by the childcare staff.
Childcare tuition: HCC does not publish a complete current tuition schedule for both centers on its main childcare page. Ask for a written quote for your child’s age group and schedule. Summer camp and after-school fees do not represent infant or preschool tuition.

For another example of a multi-service recreation building with youth enrichment, after-school care and senior activities, see our Yes We Can Community Center youth and family program guide. That facility is in New York and follows different enrollment rules.

Wentland Family Sports Complex: Fields & Recreation

The HCC Wentland Family Sports Complex is at 9400 Forest Hills Road, Loves Park, IL 61111. It is a separate outdoor facility from the main Roosevelt Road building.

Baseball & Softball

HCC’s RecDesk listing displays standard facility availability of 8 AM–5 PM daily, but league games, tournaments and events may follow different approved times.

Sports arrival: Do not assume that the office at 900 Roosevelt Road is the game location. Check the field assignment and Wentland address on the coach’s schedule.

  6. Review cancellation and setup rules. Include setup and cleanup in your approved rental period.
  7. Complete payment officially. Keep the reservation agreement and receipt.
Compare rental models: The Seven Trees Community Center room and recreation rental guide explains a different municipal facility’s booking system in San José, California. Its prices and policies are not Harlem Community Center rates.

Community Events, Volunteering & Financial Help

Beyond youth sports and childcare, HCC organizes family activities, community gatherings, special events and volunteer opportunities.

Community & Family Events

  • Family dances and seasonal celebrations.
  • Sports-related events and tournaments.
  • Community gatherings and educational activities.
  • Senior and family-oriented programs when scheduled.
  • Volunteer and fundraising events.

The official events page has advertised monthly bingo and other gatherings. Dates can change, so use its current calendar rather than assuming a historic recurring date still applies.

Volunteering

HCC welcomes help with coaching, refereeing, youth programs, recreation events, fundraising and other community activities.

  1. Choose the type of volunteering you can support.
  2. Open the official HCC support and volunteering page.
  3. Contact the organization with your availability and interests.
  4. Ask whether screening, training or background checks are required for the role.
  5. Follow the current volunteer onboarding instructions.

Need Help Paying for Programs?

HCC says it aims to keep participation affordable. The organization’s general FAQ invites families to contact staff when program fees are a barrier.

Ask about scholarships, financial aid, childcare subsidy programs, available discounts or program-specific fundraising options. Do not assume that every sports league or childcare service qualifies for the same assistance.
