How to Get Approved and Schedule a Visit

New visitors should start the application process well before their intended travel date. ODOC states that visitor background-check approval can take up to 90 days.

Step 1 — Confirm the person’s facility.

Verify that the individual is currently assigned to Clara Waters. Transfers and status changes may affect visitation. The incarcerated person must have you added to their approved visiting list.

Step 2 — Open the official visitation page.

Visit Oklahoma Department of Corrections Visitation.

Step 3 — Complete the Visitor Application.

Select the official Visitor Application link and enter the requested identification, personal and contact information. Use accurate information that matches your identification documents.

Step 4 — Wait for the background check.

ODOC requires background checks for adult visitors. Approval may take up to 90 days. The incarcerated person will notify you when the process is complete.

Step 5 — Request a scheduled visit.

Once approved, use the ODOC Visitor Schedule Request Form or call the Visitation Unit. Scheduling requests must be received by Wednesday at 1 PM.

Step 6 — Confirm the appointment.

Wait for confirmation of the visit date and time. The incarcerated person will also be informed of scheduled visitation.

Step 7 — Prepare for security screening.

Bring appropriate identification, follow the dress code and leave prohibited personal items secured outside the visitation area.

Step 8 — Arrive at the approved time.

Follow the facility’s arrival instructions, security screening, directions and staff guidance. Do not treat a submitted scheduling request as a confirmed appointment.

What Can You Bring to a Correctional Facility Visit?

ODOC applies strict screening rules to all visitors. Security officers may inspect belongings and conduct searches before allowing entry.

Generally Allowed Under Statewide Guidance

  • Required identification.
  • Car key.
  • Coins for vending machines, where permitted.

Prohibited Items

  • Cell phones and other electronic devices.
  • Weapons and ammunition.
  • Illegal drugs, alcohol and tobacco products.
  • Contraband of any kind.
  • Unauthorized paperwork or other personal property.
Security warning: Introducing contraband into a correctional facility can lead to criminal charges and the loss of visiting privileges. Do not attempt to give money, medication, documents or packages directly to an incarcerated person during a visit.

Searches and Conduct

  • Visitors and belongings may be searched, including metal-detector and pat-down screening.
  • Canine drug detection may be used.
  • Visitors must comply with correctional officers’ instructions.
  • A brief hug or kiss may be permitted at the beginning and end of a visit under statewide rules.
  • Disruptive behavior, unauthorized contact or rule violations can end a visit.

Repeated or serious violations can result in temporary or permanent restrictions. Review the complete ODOC dress-code and visitation documents before traveling.

Visiting Clara Waters With Children

Children are subject to ODOC visitation and identification procedures. Parents or guardians should prepare the necessary records before requesting a family visit.

  • Bring documentation verifying guardianship, such as a birth certificate or appropriate court or adoption papers.
  • Check whether the child’s name is included in the approved visitation arrangements.
  • Visitors who turn 18 must submit their own visitor application.
  • Ask about any special accommodations needed for infants or young children.
  • Confirm whether permitted child-care items require additional approval.
Before taking a child: Call 405-768-3269 to verify the documents and belongings permitted for the specific visit. Do not assume diaper bags, strollers or toys are automatically allowed inside.

Special, Long-Distance & Attorney Visits

ODOC allows certain special visitation arrangements, but these require authorization from the facility administrator or designee.

Situations that may qualify include:

  • Visitors traveling a long distance.
  • Approved volunteers and reentry partners.
  • Visits involving hospitalized incarcerated individuals.
  • Attorney or clergy visits under applicable policies.
  • Approved meetings with social service representatives.

Statewide guidance identifies Monday and Thursday for special visits and attorney visits. These are not automatic appointment days; facility authorization and arrangements are still required.

For legal visits, follow the current ODOC legal-visitation policy rather than relying on regular family-visitation rules.

How Phone Calls Work at Clara Waters

Oklahoma Department of Corrections uses Securus services for inmate communications. ODOC publishes facility-specific numbers that families may see as incoming calls from incarcerated individuals.

Outgoing inmate-call number405-594-8625Caller identification reference
Securus customer service800-844-6591Phone-account assistance
These numbers serve different purposes: 405-594-8625 is the published outbound calling number. It is not a general visitor-help line. For facility questions, use the ODOC-published facility contact number or Visitation Unit.

Steps for Families

  1. Visit ODOC’s official Securus Resources page.
  2. Review calling services and account requirements.
  3. Use the provider’s authorized account setup process if necessary.
  4. Check rates and payment options before adding funds.
  5. Save the published facility outbound number if you want to recognize incoming calls.

Video visitation availability is facility-dependent. Do not assume that Clara Waters currently offers video visits simply because other ODOC locations do.

Finding an Incarcerated Person & Sending Funds

If you are not certain where an individual is housed, use ODOC’s official offender information resources before scheduling travel.

Check Custody Information

  1. Open the ODOC offender information website.
  2. Use the available offender lookup resources.
  3. Search with the identifying information you have.
  4. Review the facility assignment and identifying details carefully.
  5. If the information is unclear or recently changed, confirm through the appropriate official contact.

Sending Money

ODOC provides authorized procedures for inmate deposits and account services. Deposit methods, service charges, recipient identifiers and restrictions can change.

Before sending money, confirm the person’s ODOC number, approved payment service and applicable rules directly through the ODOC Offender Info website.
