What Is Inside the Coronado Community Center?

The facility is more than a conventional meeting hall. Visitors can use or register for several different recreation and event spaces.

Aquatics Center

A pool complex with a 50-meter competition pool and a shallow recreational/instructional pool. Lap swimming, family swimming, lessons and water exercise have separate schedules.

Gymnasium

An NCAA regulation-sized basketball court with floor markings for basketball, volleyball and badminton. Public drop-in hours vary.

Fitness Center

Fitness equipment with views of Glorietta Bay. The fitness room operates during published Community Center hours.

Indoor Climbing Wall

A climbing wall with a flat-face section, overhangs and chimney features. Check its activity calendar and call to confirm access.

Nautilus Room

A waterfront banquet and event space with a professional catering kitchen and capacity for up to 250 guests.

Meeting & Dance Rooms

Two activity/meeting rooms, a demonstration kitchen and a dance studio with hardwood flooring, ballet barres and full-height mirrors.

The Nautilus Room overlooks Glorietta Bay, the Coronado Golf Course and the San Diego–Coronado Bridge. It is particularly suitable for larger receptions, nonprofit fundraisers and celebrations.

Aquatics Center: Pool Status, Swimming & Safety Rules

Current competition-pool closure: The City’s November 2, 2026 alert states that the 50-meter Competition Pool remains closed until further notice because of circulation-system repairs. The Recreation Pool is open for scheduled programming. Check the latest alert before planning a competition-pool or lap-swimming visit.

Which pool is available?

PoolUse and current information
Competition Pool50-meter swimming pool. Closed until further notice according to the November 2 City alert.
Recreation PoolShallow recreational/instructional pool. Open for scheduled programming according to the latest City alert.

Swimming activities

  • Lap swim: Lanes are first-come, first-served. When lanes fill, swimmers may need to split a lane or circle swim.
  • Family swim: Currently offered in the Recreation Pool. Participants must wear the wristbands provided for the session.
  • AquaFit: Water exercise classes are scheduled seven days a week at different times.
  • GentleFit: The City lists sessions on Tuesdays and Fridays.
  • Swim lessons: City-provided group lessons and private lessons are available. The City follows Red Cross Learn-to-Swim guidelines.

Children’s pool rules

  • Children under 6 must have an adult within arm’s reach in the water and on the pool deck.
  • Children under 14 may not enter the pool deck without an adult present.
  • The minimum unaccompanied age for the Aquatics Center is 14. Adults supervising minors must be at least 18.
  • Children who are not toilet trained must wear a reusable swim diaper.
  • The City lists reusable swim diapers for purchase at the front desk for $10.
Do not confuse the pool schedule with the building schedule. A center opening at 5:30 a.m. does not mean both pools are available for public swimming at 5:30 a.m.

  • AquaFit, GentleFit and other water exercise sessions.
  • Group and private swimming lessons.
  • Youth sports and recreational activities.
  • Gymnasium basketball and volleyball sessions.

Account verification: The City’s instructions say a new account remains provisional until the email one-time passcode is entered. If verification is not completed within two days, the provisional account may be deleted.

Resident pricing verification

Coronado residents seeking resident prices can upload proof through the Proof of Residency membership in CivicRec or provide documents to staff.

The City lists the following acceptable documents:

  • Current property tax or mortgage statement.
  • Lease or rental agreement covering at least six months.
  • A valid government-issued photo ID to verify identity and residency.

Recreation staff may take approximately 1–2 business days to update a resident account after documents are uploaded.

Who Qualifies for Coronado Resident Rental Rates?

The City classifies facility users as residents, nonresidents or commercial users. The classification determines the applicable fees and reservation window.

  • Resident: An individual with a physical Coronado address who owns property in Coronado or lives there at least six months of the year.
  • Eligible nonprofit: A nonprofit organization registered in California with a physical Coronado address, subject to the City’s rules.
  • Nonresident: An individual or nonprofit organization that does not qualify for verified resident status.
  • Commercial: A business, individual or organization using the facility for an event where guests pay, participation is charged, or goods or services are sold, subject to City policy.

The City also identifies immediate family members of Coronado residents, including parents, grandparents and children, as eligible for resident rates under its reservation information, subject to verification.

Proof of residency

The booking instructions list the following types of supporting documents:

  • Current property tax record or bill.
  • Current rental agreement or lease covering at least six months.
  • Mortgage statement.
  • The updated rental packet also identifies military orders or housing assignments in the applicant’s name.

Provide a valid government-issued photo ID with the supporting document. Confirm the currently accepted documentation with the Rentals Team before submitting your application.

Rental Insurance, Alcohol, Catering & Event Rules

The Community Center’s rental policy includes conditions that can affect the total cost and whether a particular event can be approved.

Insurance and deposits

  • A refundable security deposit is required for facility rentals.
  • Renters must provide a certificate of insurance naming the City of Coronado as additionally insured or obtain City-approved special-event insurance.
  • The rental packet specifies $1 million in required liability coverage for an event.
  • The deposit is normally returned within four weeks after the rental if the facility is left in satisfactory condition and all rules are followed.

Food and catering

  • Catering and bartending services must be approved by the City.
  • Request the approved vendor list from the Rentals Team.
  • The Nautilus Room has a professional catering kitchen.
  • Kitchen access and use are subject to the approved rental period and kitchen fee.

Alcohol service

  • Alcohol is permitted only in approved indoor rental spaces under the applicable City rules.
  • A Department-approved bartender is required.
  • Alcohol service must stop 30 minutes before the event ends.
  • Security guard services are required when alcohol is served.
  • An ABC permit may be required for ticketed or public events and certain alcohol sales or service arrangements.

Wedding ceremonies

The City rental packet states that wedding ceremonies are not permitted inside City facilities. A separate park permit is required for an outdoor ceremony. A Nautilus Room reception and an outdoor ceremony therefore need to be planned as separate approved uses.

Children and supervision during rentals

For rental groups involving minors, the packet requires at least one responsible adult for every 20 minors. The renter must maintain the required adult supervision throughout the rental.

Cleanup and decorations

  • The renter is responsible for cleaning used equipment, counters, tables and kitchen areas.
  • Personal belongings, decorations and event supplies must be removed before the rental ends.
  • Trash must be disposed of in the appropriate waste and recycling containers.
  • Confetti, glitter, rice, silly string and certain other cleanup-intensive decorations are restricted.
  • Fire exits must never be blocked.

Rental Cancellation & Refund Policy

The January 2026 Community Center rental packet gives the following cancellation terms. Requests must be submitted in writing to the Department.

Cancellation timingPublished treatment
90 or more days before eventFull refund of rental fees paid.
45–89 days before eventRental fees are refunded, but the refundable security deposit is forfeited.
Less than 45 days before eventNo refund of rental fees or deposits.

Changing the date: One date change submitted 45–89 days before the event may be approved without penalty, subject to availability. A request made less than 45 days before the event requires payment of the new rental fees and forfeiture of 50% of the original rental fees. The security deposit may be transferred to the new date.

A no-show or ending the event early does not qualify for a refund. Review the signed agreement and current City policy before paying because special circumstances and City-initiated cancellations may be handled separately.
