For comparison with another Johnson County public recreation facility offering indoor pools, fitness rooms and Child Watch, see the Matt Ross Community Center guide in Overland Park. Its entry fees and membership terms are set independently.

7-Day Membership Trial: Important Conditions

Powell Community Center advertises a seven-day membership trial for eligible people who would like to test the facilities before committing.

  • Available to people age 18 or older with valid photo identification.
  • Limited to one trial per household.
  • Intended for Kansas City metropolitan-area residents.
  • Requires a membership application, waiver and payment authorization.
  • Provides access to fitness, pools, courts, amenities and group fitness classes during the trial.
Automatic billing warning: The trial converts automatically to a paid monthly membership on Day 8 unless cancelled before the end of the trial. Check the actual payment authorization and cancellation procedure at the front desk before registering.

To start, visit the entry desk at 6200 Martway Street or call 913-722-8200.

Open volleyball is listed for ages 14 and older, Monday and Wednesday 7–9 PM and Sunday 1–3 PM. The published men’s basketball league fee is $500 per team and co-ed volleyball is $250 per team; these are program prices, not daily admission charges.

Check the current official sports schedule before attending, especially if you need an available court rather than an organized league.

Child Watch: Ages, Fees & Schedule

Before arriving with children: verify staffing, capacity, drop-off rules, current fees and whether Child Watch will be operating during your intended workout. The City’s website lists separate supervision requirements for children younger than 12 using the general facility.

Child Watch is different from a public indoor playground or an all-day childcare service. For an explanation of those differences at another recreation center, our community recreation center family and activity guide covers the questions parents should check before visiting.

Programs for Youth, Adults & Ages 50+

Mission Parks + Recreation offers seasonal programs that range from youth swimming and sports to adult wellness, recreation and learning activities.

Adults

Group fitness, yoga-style mind-and-body programs, sports, personal training and enrichment classes.

Classes can be purchased individually or through eligible admission and FitPass options. Some sessions have limited space, separate fees or registration deadlines.

How to Register for Classes or Buy Membership

  3. Enter the registration platform. Open the City’s Mission Recreation online system at missionks.myrec.com.
  4. Create or access your account. Enter the participant or household details requested by the platform.

Booking Steps

  1. Decide whether you need a court, conference room, multipurpose room, party room or another space.
  2. Estimate guest count and choose the preferred date and total reservation time.
  3. Include decorating, setup and cleanup in your reservation window.
  4. Review the official rental inquiry page.
  5. Contact the Rental Coordinator at 913-722-8215 or nlucas@missionks.org.
  6. Confirm availability, hourly charges, deposit, setup fees, equipment and applicable restrictions.
  7. Complete the required paperwork and official payment to finalize the reservation.
Important: Submitting an online rental inquiry does not reserve a room. The City requires the applicable documentation and payment before the booking is completed.

For a practical comparison of party-room, gym, pool and conference rental formats, consult our Matt Dishman Community Center rentals and pool guide. It covers Portland, Oregon, so none of its fees apply to Mission.

Rules, Age Requirements & Safety

Some of the most important conditions are activity-specific. The City publishes the following facility rules and eligibility information:

  • Visitors generally must have membership, daily admission or approved program/event access.
  • Children younger than 12 require appropriate supervision; City materials describe a responsible accompanying person age 16 or older in its FAQ and conduct policy.
  • Fitness equipment and track use have age restrictions. Young participants may require orientation or supervision.
  • The indoor waterslide has a 48-inch minimum height requirement.
  • Hot tub, sauna and steam room use is for visitors age 14 or older.
  • Wear suitable athletic clothing and closed-heel, closed-toe footwear in fitness areas.
  • Food, gum and open drinks are restricted in workout, court, track and pool areas.
  • Only authorized Powell Community Center trainers may provide paid or organized personal training within the facility.
An older City amenities page gives different age wording from the more specific conduct policy. If a child plans to use a pool, weight room or track without an adult, confirm the current age and supervision rule directly with staff rather than relying on a single summarized statement.
