Quick Answers: What Do You Need?

Find study space

Use the first- and second-floor lounges and designated study areas during permitted building hours. Check finals-week changes.

Meet a student adviser

Find the correct student resource center first. Its staffed hours may differ from SCC building hours.

Reserve a meeting room

Identify a room, capacity and event type. Reservations go through Conference and Event Services.

Attend an event

Check the organizer’s room assignment and arrival instructions. Evening events may operate outside public hours.

Visit by car

Use Pavilion Parking Structure or Visitor Parking Lot 40 and follow UC Davis permit rules.

Find food or Wi-Fi

The building lists CoHo South Café, lounge seating and free wireless. Café service hours vary.

SCC Building Hours: Academic Year vs. Summer

UC Davis publishes separate academic-year and summer schedules. These are general building hours, not guaranteed office hours for every program or café.

DayAcademic yearSummer
Monday–Thursday7:30 a.m.–10 p.m.8 a.m.–6 p.m.
Friday7:30 a.m.–8 p.m.8 a.m.–6 p.m.
SaturdayNoon–6 p.m.Closed
SundayNoon–6 p.m.Closed
Hours verification: The official SCC venue contact page currently lists the schedule above, while an older university operational PDF and some finals-week schedules list different Friday/Sunday times. Do not assume extended late-night access. Check the current date-specific university notice or call the front desk before an evening or weekend visit.

2026 listed exceptions: September 7 closed for Labor Day; November 11 closed for Veterans Day; November 25 closes at 6 p.m.; November 26–29 closed for Thanksgiving; December 11 closes at 6 p.m. The university also lists winter-break restrictions, including December 12–January 3 closure for ordinary access, with limited event-only exceptions during part of December.

Inside the Building: Floors, Services & Amenities

The SCC is a student-life and academic-support building, not a typical city recreation center with a public gym or swimming pool.

First floor

Public lounge and study areas, the Cross Cultural Center, LGBTQIA Resource Center, Student Recruitment and Retention Center, Undocumented Student Resource Center and other shared facilities.

Second floor

Additional lounge, event and meeting areas, including the Middle Eastern, North African and South Asian Student Resources and the broader campus Community Resource and Retention Centers offices.

Study amenities

Open seating, natural light, wireless internet, a wireless print station, a designated extended-hours study room and quieter spaces for breaks and reflection.

Building amenities

CoHo South Café, outdoor balconies, a reflection room overlooking a water feature, traditional and gender-neutral restrooms, and two notable murals.

Local shortcut: If you are approaching from Shields Library, head west toward the Student Community Center. From the Silo, travel north toward the central campus area. The SCC is not the same building as Memorial Union, the ARC or the Silo.

The university also identifies Nurturing the Dream by Susan Shelton and The Practice of Freedom by Malaquias Montoya as artworks inside the SCC. The building has LEED Platinum certification.

Student Resource Centers: Which Office Should You Visit?

Different centers serve different academic, cultural and support needs. Find the right office before visiting so you do not arrive when its staff are unavailable.

CenterWhat it helps with
Cross Cultural Center
First floor
Community-building, cultural programs, identity-based engagement and inclusive student activities.
LGBTQIA Resource Center
First floor
Community resources, programs, support, advocacy and belonging for students across diverse identities.
Student Recruitment and Retention Center
First floor
Educational equity, student-led retention initiatives, academic and personal development, leadership and community support.
Undocumented Student Resource Center
First floor
Resources, advising connections, advocacy and student support related to undocumented student experiences.
MENASA Student Resources
Second floor
Community, education and cultural identity support for Middle Eastern, North African and South Asian students.
McNair Scholars ProgramResearch preparation and graduate-school pathways for qualifying students.
Undergraduate Research CenterUndergraduate research opportunities, preparation and campus research resources.

For example, the Cross Cultural Center publishes staffed hours of Monday–Thursday 10 a.m.–6 p.m. and Friday noon–5 p.m., while the Student Recruitment and Retention Center lists Monday–Friday 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Both may change during breaks. This is why SCC building access does not guarantee an individual office is staffed.

Study Spaces, Wi-Fi, Printing & Quiet Areas

Individual studying

Use open lounges and designated study areas. These are useful between lectures or when nearby library spaces are busy.

Group studying

Small informal study groups can use available shared seating. Dedicated meeting rooms may require reservations.

Wireless printing

The SCC lists a wireless print station. Check print-job instructions and applicable printing charges rather than assuming unlimited free printing.

Extended study

The SCC has designated extended-hours study space, but exact access can change during finals, holidays and building closures.

Common confusion: UC Davis also maintains a separate 24-hour study room in Shields Library, accessed through its own entrance. Do not assume the SCC itself is open 24 hours.

Meeting Rooms: Capacity & Best Uses

The SCC provides more than 4,800 square feet of event space, including five meeting rooms, a multipurpose room and two patios. Room capacity depends on seating configuration.

*UC Davis marks some lecture configurations with an asterisk. Verify the approved room setup before invitations or ticketing. The multipurpose room also lists banquet capacity 96 and reception capacity 200.

Rental minimums: The SCC facility guidelines list a four-hour minimum for the multipurpose room and a two-hour minimum for meeting rooms. Charges can include staffing, equipment, preparation and other event-specific services. A public fixed rental price was not established for every room.

How to Reserve Space at the SCC

1Identify the event

Specify student organization meeting, workshop, reception, university program or outside event.

2Choose the room

Use the capacity table, anticipated attendance and preferred seating arrangement.

3Prepare event details

Have your date, start/end times, organizer information, AV needs and catering/setup requirements ready.

4Review eligibility

Registered student organizations must meet authorized-reserver and active agency-account rules.

5Submit through CES

All SCC event reservations go through UC Davis Conference and Event Services, not this guide.

6Wait for confirmation

Confirm any required charges, staffing, approved room setup and reservation conditions before announcing the event.

Parking at UC Davis SCC: Where to Go & What to Pay

The SCC is in the central campus core, where ordinary visitor driving access is restricted. UC Davis identifies the Pavilion Parking Structure and Visitor Parking Lot 40 as nearby parking choices. You then walk to the building.

Visitor parking

The published FY 2026–27 non-affiliate daily visitor rate is $19 for eligible zones. Hourly and other permit options may also be available.

UC Davis affiliates

The published daily affiliate C-zone rate is $5.50 and L-zone rate is $3.75. Eligibility and zone restrictions apply.

Permit timing: Paid permits are generally required Monday–Friday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Weekends and university holidays are generally exempt except designated special-event parking periods.

Pay for Parking in 4 Steps

  1. Park in an eligible visitor or affiliate space at the Pavilion Structure or Lot 40.
  2. Open an official AggiePark payment option, such as AMP Park or HONK, or use a campus COSMOS payment terminal.
  3. Choose the correct parking zone, enter the license plate and select the permitted duration.
  4. Pay and confirm the session. The plate serves as the virtual permit; do not park in reserved, loading or restricted spaces.

Visitors with qualifying disabled placards or plates may have no-additional-permit access in approved spaces under UC Davis rules. Restricted spaces remain off-limits. Confirm the designated accessible route if mobility accommodations are needed.
