Plan Your Visit to Summit’s Recreation & Community Center

Summit Community Center is the home of the City of Summit Department of Community Programs (DCP). Located at 100 Morris Avenue, Summit, NJ 07901, it serves residents through open gym activities, youth sports, after-school programs, senior activities, seasonal classes and community events.

If you are visiting for a program, membership, gym session or facility reservation, the most important thing is to check the correct schedule. Office hours, open gym hours and scheduled activities are not always the same.

Community Center Hours & Open Gym Schedule

The City publishes office hours separately from its sports and recreation schedules. Visitors coming for an activity should use the activity timetable rather than assuming that the reception desk schedule applies to every part of the building.

Area / servicePublished schedule
Community Programs officeMonday–Friday, 8:30 AM–4:30 PM
Summer office hoursMonday–Thursday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM; Friday, 8:00 AM–1:00 PM, from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend
Guida Gym, Saturday7:00 AM–5:00 PM, except 10:00–11:30 AM, under the posted weekend schedule
Guida Gym, Sunday9:00 AM–5:00 PM under the posted weekend schedule
Weekday open gymActivity-specific sessions; basketball, badminton, volleyball and pickleball may use different blocks
Programs and classesScheduled independently by activity, age and season
Important: the weekend gym schedule is subject to program changes, private rentals, weather-related relocations and special events. The City’s open gym page also contains season-specific schedule references, so confirm the date of the schedule before relying on it.

If you are going for basketball or pickleball, first identify the sport and age group. Then check whether that court is assigned to open play, a league, the after-school program or an event.

Open Gym Membership Prices & Daily Fees

The published open gym rates distinguish Summit residents from visitors living outside the city. For regular users, a membership may cost less than repeated day passes.

Membership / visitSummit residentNon-resident
Individual, ages 2–61$50$100
Senior, age 62+$25$50
Family membership$150$300
Daily drop-in$10$20

The family membership covers two adults and their children under age 18 living at the same Summit address. The City’s published open gym pricing states that non-resident memberships are double the resident rates.

Which is better? A Summit resident planning six paid $10 drop-in visits would spend $60, compared with the published $50 individual membership. Before buying, confirm the membership term, current price and whether the chosen program requires separate registration.

Guest rule: the City states that guests must attend with a member. Do not assume an unaccompanied non-member can enter simply by paying a daily fee.

Share the Fun Club: 2026–27 School Year

For parents looking for after-school supervision and recreation, Share the Fun is one of the center’s most practical services.

Published time3:00–5:30 PM
Membership$50 individual open gym membership or eligible family membership
ActivitiesSports, arts and crafts, baking, homework help, tutoring and recreational games

The City’s current promotional materials describe Share the Fun as included with eligible open gym membership rather than charging a separate monthly program fee. How a Child Joins

1
Check eligibility. Confirm that your child is a Summit resident and in the current eligible grade range.
2
Arrange open gym membership. Select the correct individual or family membership and complete registration.
3
Confirm school-day availability. The program does not necessarily operate when schools are closed or on unusual dismissal days.
4
Use the main entrance. Children check in at the front desk before participating.
5
Review pickup and contact arrangements. Confirm current parent communication, emergency contact and departure policies with program staff.

How to Register for Summit Recreation Programs

Summit uses an online recreation registration system for program enrollment, memberships and related transactions. The current City portal links to CivicRec/Rec1, while some older FAQ language refers to Community Pass.

  1. Open the official Summit recreation registration catalog.
  2. Sign in or create a household account. Add the participants who will attend.
  3. Select the correct category, such as enrichment, youth sports, open gym or membership.
  4. Read the activity listing for age or grade eligibility, residency conditions, dates, location, price and available places.
  5. Choose the activity or membership, complete any required participant information and review applicable policies.
  6. Pay through the official registration system and retain the receipt or confirmation email.
  7. If an activity is unavailable or your account needs correction, call 908-277-2932 before making another payment.
Registration tip: not every activity has the same fee or enrollment method. A gym membership does not automatically enroll someone in a separate paid class or sports clinic.

Community Center Rentals: Who Can Reserve Space?

The City has an important restriction that casual visitors may miss: community center meeting rooms may be reserved by approved nonprofit organizations only. A private birthday party, commercial event or informal gathering should not be assumed eligible for a meeting-room booking.

Rental requestWhat to know
Meeting roomApproved nonprofit organizations only, according to the official DCP FAQ.
Gym / sports useAvailability depends on scheduled classes, programs, leagues and approved facility use.
Outdoor field / courtSeparate reservation rules apply; residents generally receive priority, with stated exceptions.
Private eventAsk DCP whether the intended activity is eligible before planning the event around this facility.
Fees and depositsNo verified universal meeting-room rental price is published in the sources reviewed; obtain the applicable terms directly.

How to Request a Reservation

1
Identify the space. Specify a meeting room, gym, field, court or another facility.
2
Confirm eligibility. For a meeting room, explain your nonprofit status and proposed activity.
3
Contact the DCP. Call 908-277-2932 or email recdept@cityofsummit.org with your requested date, time, attendance and purpose.
4
Request exact terms. Confirm space availability, capacity, insurance, required documentation, permitted activities, setup, cleanup and charges.
5
Obtain written approval. Do not advertise or pay outside vendors based solely on a verbal availability discussion.
Outdoor reservation detail: the DCP FAQ says field and court requests should be submitted during the week at least 24 hours before the requested time. The City recommends carrying the confirmation email. That rule should not be assumed to apply to meeting rooms.

Senior Activities & Family Recreation

Summit residents seeking low-pressure social programs can use the center for senior activities and family-oriented events rather than only competitive sports.

The City’s 2026 announcements list senior art and Bingo activities, including a monthly Bingo session around noon. These events may have different sign-up arrangements from paid enrichment classes, so a senior visitor should confirm whether attendance is drop-in or preregistration-based.

Family-oriented programming includes enrichment classes, school-age recreation and seasonal TryCAN events. Check age limits individually: a program for grades 1–8 is not necessarily open to preschoolers, and a class intended for ages 6–10 may have a fixed registration cutoff.

Arrival & Parking Tips

  • Enter the address 100 Morris Avenue into your map rather than searching only for “Summit Community Center,” which can also return a Seattle nonprofit.
  • Look for the Department of Community Programs entrance and front desk when arriving for registration or membership help.
  • For youth programs, allow time for check-in rather than dropping children at an unconfirmed entrance.
  • For busy tournaments or major events, ask about parking arrangements before arriving. General parking availability does not guarantee an event parking space.
  • If accessible entry, drop-off or accommodation is essential, call the DCP for the current route and arrangements.

Things to Check Before Leaving Home

Going to open gym?

Check your sport’s schedule, membership status, daily fee, age grouping and whether a rental is blocking the court.

Registering for a class?

Check participant age, registration availability, instructor, price, course dates and cancellation rules.

Bringing a child?

Confirm program eligibility, supervision, school-calendar changes and arrival/departure procedures.

Requesting a room?

Confirm nonprofit eligibility, availability, written approval, rental terms and any insurance requirements.

Avoid a wasted visit: reception hours and gym access are different schedules. Holiday closures, weather, tournaments and facility rentals may also change availability.
