Source Verification and Manual Checking Policy

community-center.org/ uses a manual source-checking process for important center details. Because community centers can change schedules, phone numbers, programs, booking rules, emergency uses, and facility status, we treat verification as an ongoing editorial responsibility.

Details We Manually Check

  • Center name and alternate names.
  • Street address, city, state, ZIP code, and map/location consistency.
  • Official phone number and contact path.
  • Official website, city page, parks and recreation page, nonprofit operator page, or program page.
  • Facility type, such as community center, recreation center, senior center, youth center, civic center, neighborhood center, or cultural center.
  • Hours, program notes, rental details, and visitor cautions where official sources provide them.

Sources We Prefer

  • Official city, county, township, borough, or municipal websites.
  • Official parks and recreation department pages.
  • Official community center or facility pages.
  • Official nonprofit operator pages.
  • Official school district, library, public health, senior services, or emergency management pages when relevant.
  • Official event calendars, program guides, room rental pages, registration portals, and facility notices.

Link and Map Testing Workflow

Open the official source: We try to confirm that the page loads and relates to the actual center or operating department.
Compare name and address: We check whether the center name, street address, city, and ZIP code align across sources.
Check phone and contact context: We confirm whether the number appears to be the center, city department, parks office, or operator contact.
Check map consistency: We compare address and map location where possible so visitors are not sent to a wrong facility.
Add caution language: If hours, program availability, rental fees, or closures may change, we remind users to verify with the official operator.

What We Do When Sources Conflict

ConflictLikely CauseEditorial Handling
Map listing has different hours than city pageThird-party listing not updatedPrefer official operator page and tell users to call before visiting
Phone number points to parks office, not facility deskCentralized department contactLabel the contact path clearly and avoid saying it is a direct front desk unless verified
Program calendar differs from PDF guideSeasonal schedule updateUse cautious wording and direct users to official registration/calendar page
Facility appears closed temporarilyRenovation, weather, holiday, staffing, emergency useAdd a closure caution or tell users to verify status before travel

Verification Limit

Manual verification means our team checks details during content work. It does not mean a phone number, map, program, event, class, or facility status is guaranteed forever. Community centers can update information after publication, so final action should always be confirmed with the official operator.
